Howdy! My name’s Kirk and I’m the proud owner of The Eco-Addict. My goal for this site is to showcase the top eco-friendly products, especially to do with renewable energy sources.

Kirk, The Eco Addict
Hey, I’m Kirk!

My quest to learn more about renewable energy started when I was looking for alternative living options.

I just wasn’t happy living in the city playing the rat race game. I’d be up early in the morning driving into the big city for a long day at work, and then get stuck in traffic on my way home.

By the time I got home I barely had enough energy left to shower and make dinner let alone stay on top of any chores and life related stuff. Of course the stuff I had neglected throughout the week needed attention on the weekends giving me just enough time to get caught up before going to work Monday morning and doing it all over again.

Sure, I make decent money, but I started to ask myself, if I’m constantly burnt out, is it really worth it?

I remember going fishing and hunting as a kid with my uncle and father who were both quite talented woodworkers. They taught me the art of bushcraft and how to make shelters, and things for camp out of fallen branches and rope.

With very minimal supplies and some ingenuity we built ourselves a little camp out in the wilderness. It was our little hideaway with a little wood stove, a cot, and a small kitchen with enough room to store our things. Other local hunters and snowmobilers got to enjoy the cabin as well along their journey and I have a lot of great memories from that time.

So although I am much closer to my goal of living off-grid, I still live in the city, but have a much more balanced lifestyle. I was able to cut back my hours at work and only commute 4 days instead of 5. This has given me more free time to research and prepare as much as possible to live off-grid with renewable energy sources like solar and wind power to power my cabin. I plan to live in a small town where there’s a sense of community, and away from all the noise.

For anyone looking for the same lifestyle switch, I recommend taking it one step at a time. Learn how to fix things yourself, learn how to be more self reliant, and learn how to live with less. It might take a few years to get there, but it will be worth it.

My goal for this site is to not only help my own research of renewable products that I can use for my off grid cabin, but to help you discover alternative energy sources as well, and perhaps introduce a new way of living. Thanks for stopping by!
